Newsletter July 2017 – Special Edition

Hare Krishna dear devotees,

We bring to you a special edition of Kirtan Newsletter – “Kirtan Academy on Punjab Tour”.

The Harinama Sankirtan movement aims at spreading the glories of Harinama to the remotest corner as instructed by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The Kirtan Academy events are aligned to the same instruction & to further facilitate in cultivating the right mood & service attitude towards the glorious & all-auspicious Harinama. Having received the invitation to visit the core cities of Punjab, Kirtan Academy saw it as an opportunity to fulfill the aforesaid vision there. Read more on this unique experience in this newsletter.

Any person who is conscious of his friend’s beneficent activities and never forgets his service is called grateful. In the Mahābhārata, Kṛṣṇa says, “When I was away from Draupadī, she cried with the words, ‘He govinda!’ This call for Me has put Me in her debt, and that indebtedness is gradually increasing in My heart!” This statement by Kṛṣṇa gives evidence of how one can please the Supreme Lord simply by addressing Him, “He kṛṣṇa! He govinda!”

The mahā-mantra (Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare) is also simply an address to the Lord and His energy. So to anyone who is constantly engaged in addressing the Lord and His energy, we can imagine how much the Supreme Lord is obliged. It is impossible for the Lord to ever forget such a devotee. It is clearly stated in this verse that anyone who addresses the Lord immediately attracts the attention of the Lord, who always remains obliged to him.

Kirtan Academy visits PUNJAB!

Divisions on land may change the rituals, dressing or language of the dwellers but they do not change the eternal longing for happiness that resides within each heart. 500 years back Lord Chaitanya descended with the permanent solution of this malady – the magnanimous Harinama Sankirtan, yet how many of us could actually relieve ourselves from our mundane anxieties through this medication! The effect of Harinama on a pure heart is Prema-Bhakti, yet we hardly question our inability to access that elusive treasure. Sitting on top of the mine of happiness, we still continue to chew the chewed. With the goal of decreasing the gap between knowledge and experience, Kirtan Academy packed its bags and set out on a journey to refine the forgotten science of Kirtan, under the esteemed guidance of the direct disciple of HDG Srila Prabhupada, HG Yasomati Devi Dasi and accompanied by the academy’s music director HG Vishaka Devi Dasi and HG Janeswar Das from Mayapur 24 hour Mandali.

The Kirtan Academy (KA) Team landed in Amritsar (Punjab) on 24-June (Day 1). Despite the sweltering heat, devotees flocked to pay their obeisance & catch a glimpse of the revered guest devotees. Received with a great enthusiasm, the first encounter turned into a massive Sankirtan spontaneously. For their stay of a day and a half, the ISKCON Amritsar arranged a string of home programs & two separate Sunday Love Feast to be led by the KA Team. The Team was also part of Jagannath Rathayatra organized by ISKCON Amritsar to celebrate the original Rathayatra in Puri Dham. Even the hectic schedule, could not mitigate the enthusiasm of the devotees to do more & more. The devotees had enlightening discussions with HG Yasomati Devi Dasi Mataji pertaining to Nama Ruci & Prema-Bhakti. Special requests were made by devotees to relish the pastimes she shared with Srila Prabhupada. The congregation of over 300 devotees listened intently as Mataji shared her story about coming into Krishna Consciousness and being absorbed in the direct service of Srila Prabhupada. On 26-June (Day-3), the KA Team reached Jalandhar and continued showering the nectar of Harinama Sankirtan on the two Nama Hatta centres.

KA Team was received by Iskcon Naam Hatta Centre Panchkula devotees on 28th June (Day 4) and two more Kirtaniyas from Vrindavan. HG Madan Mohan pr & HG Prashant Silver Pr who are the followers of Sripad Aindra Prabhu joined them. Big Harinama Sankirtan was organized to welcome them and the devotees had an opportunity to participate in the non-stop Harinama from the four Kirtaniyas which culminated as HG Yasomati Mataji took over and provided the glimpse of how we can surrender to the glories of Harinama through her lecture & eventually immersing all with her enchanting & meditative Kirtan. Kirtan is not performed in a spectator-performer setting, there is only one audience & enjoyer, Krishna & all of us are the performers, with these words the Sankirtan soon turned into an ecstatic furor where all devotees cried in the loudest of their voices & danced wildly to please the Supreme Lord.

The following day (Day-5) many house programmes were arranged by ISKCON Nama Hatta Centre Panchkula where the HG Yasomati Mataji glorified Srila Prabhupada & Harinama to motivate the devotees to actively involve themselves in the preaching activities & increasing their internal austerity. She clarified the basics of Japa & Kirtan and the importance of both in the holistic cure of anarthas and boosting naam ruci. The day ended with a special Harinama Sankirtan Event to commemorate the disappearance day of Sripad Aindra Pr & an introduction to the International Kirtan Village, a retreat centre focused on the holy name, in Sridham Mayapur, where one name counts as 10,000 and offenses are overlooked by the all merciful Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Many devotees came forward to support the project to their fullest capacity.

Day 6 – 30th June, the KA Team moved to Chandigarh. ISKCON Chandigarh had organized a 2-Day Kirtan Standards Seminar for its devotee members to be conducted by the KA Team. Many excited devotees enrolled and were benefitted by the association of the Vaishnavas. Irrespective of age, the devotees were keen to accept Mataji’s words & guidance wholeheartedly.

After 7 days of incessant chanting of Harinama & its vast glories in Punjab, the KA Team went back to Mayapur. It is not an end of association but a beginning of a long-standing relationship centered at promoting Harinama & to revive its original place in devotional practices as instituted by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in paving the way back to Godhead for all the devotees the most practical way!

The congregation of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Panchkula & Chandigarh have committed to meet again for a Japa Retreat in Vrindavan end of this year to take up from where they left off and further implement what they heard. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Gaura Bhakta Vrinda ki Jaya! Harinama Sankirtan ki Jaya! Param Vijayate Sri Krishna Sankirtanam!

“You were always filled with undying energy, always ready to help the devotees towards improving their japa, reading spiritual books, and finding more and more ways to serve Krishna.”
“Mataji, thank you for letting us know the beauty of taking Krishna’s shelter and leaving everything else behind. Your life became an example for all of us to look at our own lives and introspect, to see and find out the real meaning and purpose of our life. You have allowed us to analyze our present status of Bhakti and improve. You have been an absolute blessing for all of us. It’s great to see you live so blissfully and magnificently.”
“We would like to thank the Kirtan Academy for the spiritual energy it has left here. I personally remember HG Yasomati Mataji saying to look for that inspiration amongst each one of us. And specially the slogan “to improve your kirtan, improve your japa”… Moreover, I would like to thanks Her for bringing us closer to Naam Sankirtan. Like you said we do study deeply in our material courses, so we should also be sincere and serious towards spiritual education through Srila Prabhupada’s books. Excited for the Japa Retreat with Mataji and all the Vaishnavas!”
“I’m writing this message as a way of expressing my heart felt gratitude to Kirtan Academy. I am indebted to you for your priceless association that we all could avail. How you spared time for our congregation amidst your very hectic schedule is worth a very heart deep appreciation. We thank Srila Prabhupada for showering His blessings upon us through you.”
