May 2015 – Volume 1 Issue #1

sns Dear devotees,

Thank you so much to those of you who attended Mayapur  and/or Mauritius Maha-Sankirtan yajnas in person or on  Mayapur.TV. This is the yuga-dharma of this age. What  could be a better activity than chanting the Holy Name in  the association of devotees who have committed themselves  to glorifying the Lord for several full days.

This is a time when everyone of us can deepen our relationship with Krishna who says that He personally comes to an assembly where His Holy Names are chanted.

naham tisthami vaikunthe yoginam hrdayesu va

yatra gayanti mad-bhaktah tatra tisthami narada

“My dear Narada, I do not dwell in Vaikuntha or in the hearts of the yogi, but wherever My devotees sing My glories”

(Padma Purana).

During Kirtan Melas, It is our sincere hope that each participant experiences a deep Krishna conscious state of being. This will happen in direct proportion to our effort and ability to focus our mind and heart on the Lord and His holy name. Focus on Krishna is wonderfully expressed in a prayer from CC M. 22.33:

“One is immediately freed from the clutches of māyā if he seriously and sincerely says, ‘My dear Lord Kṛṣṇa, although I have forgotten You for so many long years in the material world, today I am surrendering unto You. I am Your sincere and serious servant. Please engage me in Your service”

In his Harinama Cintamani Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura gives us three powerful meditations that help us to chant with concentration and an inner connection:

1) I am a pure spiritual soul, an eternal servant of Sri Krishna

2) The Lord is my most merciful master

3) My only purpose in this world is to glorify Him.

The experience has shown that you can attain the best results if you commit yourself to participate fully in the Kirtan Mela.

–  Make a firm sankalpa (inner resolve) to be in the kirtan for as many hours as possible.

– Chant for the pleasure of Krishna by consciously engaging your body, voice and mind in His service

– If you should notice that you have become inattentive, make an effort to bring your mind back to the sound of the Holy Name. In a humble state of mind beg for Krishna’s mercy.

In this regard Srila Haridasa Thakura says:

“Simply by one’s own efforts no one in this world can overcome distractedness. Such a victory can only come about by the merciful blessings of the Lord. Therefore it is absolutely necessary to beg for His grace with great humility.”

(Harinama Cintamani 12.49)

– Try to find a place from where you can see the deities – either on the altar or the screens

– When you are outside of the kirtan mandala, keep the focus by either continuing to sing, talk about Krishna or by serving the Vaisnavas.

There is a fundamental principle in chanting which Sri Krishna expresses in the Gita 4.11. It is the principle of divine reciprocation:

“As all surrender unto Me, I reward them accordingly.”

At the end of the 12th Canto Sukadeva Goswami describes the blessing of chanting Krishna’s names:

“My dear King, although Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults, there is still one good quality about this age: Simply by chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, one can become free from material bondage and be promoted to the transcendental kingdom.”

(SB 12.3.51)

Our sincere prayer is that these blessings come true for all of you, so that you feel inspired to take the enthusiasm for chanting home and make your life a success and benefit all those who come in contact with you.

Desiring to obtain your mercy

your servant,

8-1024x683 In the mood of Vasudeva Ghosh, HH Bhakti  Charu Swami sang the following beautiful bhajan on the last night of the kirtan mela. It is at this  time, during this song expressing gratitude for  Lord  Caitanya that Sri Sri Pancatattva choose to  display what appeared to be tears rolling down their eyes and kept rolling throughout the rest of the evening.

Many articles have been written on the subject,  talking about condensation or miracles. Regardless, we feel privileged to have envisioned Mahaprabhu’s kirtan tears which are repeatedly described by His associates. The following is the bhajan sung by HH Bhakti Charu Swami on that evening.

Yadi Gaura Na Hoito

by Vasudeva Ghosa

If Lord Gaura had not appeared as the yuga-avatara in this age of Kali, then what would have become of us? How could we have tolerated living? Who in this universe would have ever learned about the topmost limits of loving mellows that comprise the glory of Sri Radha?

Who would have had the power to render ecstatic devotional service that follows in the footsteps of the damsels of Vraja? Indeed, the clever expertise of the Vraja-gopis is a prerequisite for entering the supremely sweet forest of Vrinda Devi.

Oh, please sing again and again of the glorious qualities of Lord Gauranga! Just try to keep your heart simple. Not even one person within this ocean of nescience has ever seen such a magnanimous personality as He.

Even though I chant the holy name of Lord Gauranga, somehow I still have not melted in ecstasy—how then have I maintained the burden of this body? How has the Creator fashioned this body with a stone in place of Vasudeva Ghosa’s heart?”

yadi gaura na hoito, tabe ki hoito,

kemone dharitam de radhar mahima,

prema-rasa-sima, jagate janato ke

madhura vrinda, vipina-madhuri,

pravesa caturi sar baraja-yuvati,

bhaver bhakati, sakati hoito kar

gao gao puna, gauranger guna,

sarala koriya mana e bhava-sagare,

emona doyal, na dekhiye eka-jana

(ami) gauranga boliya, na genu galiya,

kemone dhorinu de vasur hiya,

paisana diya, kemone gadiyache

MayapurTVNrshingha Das was able to attend Kirtan Mela Mauritius and train some devotees in creating a world class broadcast, live.

In this regard, we received the following poem from one of the M-TV viewers.

by Gaurangi dasi (France)

Never has washing dishes been so joyful

While the maha-mantra is filling my heart.

Mauritius Kirtan Mela, such a great pull !

Once a while I look  at the computer screen

And start beating the pan with the wooden spoon.

Wonder of the net, I’m with you all right now.

Sometimes the connection gets interrupted,

I continue to sing with renewed vigour,

The holy names do have a life of their own.

I’m dancing by myself with wild abandon,

In surrender to Krishna and Balarama,

So delightfully present in their photos.

Heartfelt thank you to all the organizers

And  great singers of this wonderful mela

For bringing much bliss to my little corner.

In the large Indian Ocean, out of nowhere, there exists a small island known as Mauritius that is always describe as the paradise island and which appears just like a dot on the world map to the East of the African continent.

Sacinandana Swami mentioned that in Germany everyone recognized Mauritius as a Paradise Island and they come here for holiday. He chose to come to Mauritius to give the greatest treasure, the connected chanting of Krishna’s holy name.

The festival started on 9th of April 2015 with the evening Adhivasa ceremony and followed with 3 days non-stop kirtan, from 10 am to 10 pm and longer.

The whole island, and more, may be the whole continent or the whole planet, was affected by the prayerful chanting of the holy name in association with leading devotees and kirtaniyas i.e. His Holiness Sacinandana Swami, His Holiness Lokanath Swami, His Holiness Bhakti Caitanya Swami, His Holiness BB Govinda Swami, His Holiness Kadamba Kanana Swami, Her Grace Yasomati devi dasi, His Grace Madhava prabhu, , HG Arjuna prabhu, HG Advaita Chandra prabhu, His Grace Akincana Krishna prabhu, Her Grace Radhika devi dasi and others.

Devotees experienced new bliss and taste for the holy name, so much so that they could not stop chanting and dancing. The Maharajas present were chanting and dancing with full abandon along with the other participants. It was such a heart touching event. At some point the devotees lifted Sacinandana Maharaja in the air and made him float, he was factually crowd surfing in the paradise island of Mauritius! To add to all the blissful moments, Kadamba Kanana Swami vyasa puja was also celebrated with sharing of prasad.

All these nectarean moments were made possible by working together. We united to make this event happen with the Kirtan Mela core team headed by Her Grace Karunika mataji. under the guidance of Sacinandana Maharaja’s International Kirtan Mela team from Mayapur. Mauritius is still swimming in an ocean of bliss.

Everyday for the festival, Mauritius kirtan mela event received 3500-5000 at any one time. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were served freely. We feel we have tasted the spiritual world!

Krishna made further arrangement to deepen the faith of the devotees. Small and larger miracles happen daily, here is one we would like to share with you.  A muslim man confided to a Mauritian devotee: “I passed your tent while contemplating suicide later that day at the beach. When I heard the loud singing however, I stopped, thinking that this would be my last ‘party’ before I proceed to shoot myself. After chanting with all of  you I saw a door open before me through which the light of Allah fell and showed me a way to solve my problems. Thank you for saving my life.” That man spend 2 days praying and dancing with the devotees whom he had not met before. he is now in regular communication with the devotee he confided in.

This is the power of sankirtan, chanting together! For the new comers it destroys the reactions of sinful life and if one chants offencelessly the holy name bestows Krishna Prema. The Holy Name is a storehouse of unexpected treasures. The Mauritian yatra is already planning for the second kirtan mela as there is no higher bliss than the beautiful holy name of Lord Krishna.

Param vijayate Sri Krishna Sankirtanam!

Harinam sankirtan ki jaya!

Kirtan Mela Mauritius ki jaya!

Gaura Bhakta Vrinda ki jaya!
